Makchat is an AI-powered academic research assistant tool built for students, researchers, and staff. You agree to use this service only for lawful research and academic purposes. You must not:

  • Use the service to generate malicious, illegal, or plagiarized materials.
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits or system security mechanisms.
  • Automate requests to the service via bots, scrapers, or other scripted systems.

3. User Registration & Account Security

To use certain features of the service, you must register for an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your username and password, and you are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

4. Intellectual Property

All content and materials available on Makchat, including but not limited to text, graphics, website name, code, images, and logos are the intellectual property of the Makerere University Research Initiative, and are protected by applicable copyright and trademark law.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the AI research assistant's suggestions or data. Users are advised to double-check AI-generated citations and responses against primary scholarly sources.

6. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall Makerere University, its researchers, administrators, or developers be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of your use of or inability to use the service.

7. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new terms on this page. Your continued use of the service after changes are made constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
